Down the Rabbit Hole Therapies
Art therapy is for you if you’ve ever felt stuck, misunderstood, overwhelmed, or numb. It’s for those who’ve tried talking therapy and found it hard to open up. It’s especially powerful for survivors of trauma and abuse, because trauma often lives in the body and the senses, not just the mind.

Art Therapy (Jung)
Art therapy gives you a way to express things you might not have words for. It works beyond conversation. It can help when talking feels like too much, or not enough. At Down the Rabbit Hole Therapies in Kerry, we use art therapy to guide clients through trauma, anxiety, grief, identity struggles, and deep emotional wounds.
You don’t have to be good at art. You don’t need to have any artistic background. What matters is what happens in the process. You put something down on paper – maybe colour, maybe shapes – and it shows what’s going on inside you. That’s where the work begins.

What Is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is a type of psychotherapy that uses creativity to explore emotions, process trauma, and improve psychological well-being. It’s grounded in the belief that creative expression helps people explore their inner worlds in a way that goes deeper than words. It’s especially effective for people who’ve experienced complex trauma or who find it hard to express themselves through language alone.
We use different types of media – drawing, painting, collage, sometimes clay or sculpture – to help you explore what’s under the surface. It’s not about making something pretty. It’s about noticing what shows up.

Why Art Therapy Helps
Art therapy doesn’t bypass the pain. It helps you face it. It slows things down so you can sit with the things that are too hard to talk about. Sometimes it’s easier to draw anger than say “I’m angry”. Sometimes you realise you’re grieving when a colour suddenly hits you in the chest. You’re not performing. You’re not judged. It’s your safe space.
This type of work is especially useful if you:
-
Struggle with PTSD or complex trauma
-
Have survived sexual abuse or violence
-
Have been through domestic abuse
-
Are living with a chronic illness
-
Are processing abortion experiences
-
Are navigating grief or loss
-
Feel disconnected from your body or emotions
-
Don’t know how to describe what you’re feeling
What Happens in a Session?
Sessions are gentle, structured, and always at your pace. You’ll work one-to-one in a private space. You can talk as much or as little as you want. We might start with a chat about how you're feeling, then move into an art activity that helps you explore that emotion.
We don’t analyse or interpret your work for you. Instead, we ask questions that help you reflect on it yourself. You’ll start to see patterns. You’ll start to connect dots. This is where healing begins – in your own awareness.
Working with the Unconscious: Jungian Influence
The approach we take here at Down the Rabbit Hole Therapies is informed by Carl Jung’s work. He believed that the unconscious holds symbols and images that speak to our deeper selves. Art allows these symbols to surface. You don’t always know why you’re drawing what you draw. But your unconscious does.
This is where insight happens. You’ll start to notice recurring themes. Maybe certain images keep appearing. Maybe a colour keeps pulling you back. These aren't coincidences – they're signals. And they often lead you to places that need healing.
